    Instructors

    Efrat Kaznik, President, Foresight Valuation Group

    Efrat Kasznik is President of Foresight Valuation Group and a Lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Ms. Kasznik is a Silicon-Valley based IP valuation and strategy expert with over 25 years of consulting experience, focused on assisting IP holders across industries with the valuation, commercialization, and monetization of their intangible assets. She helps clients, ranging in size from Fortune 100 companies to start-ups, with IP and business valuations in support of licensing deals, IP and technology acquisitions, M&A transactions, financial reporting, strategic planning, and fundraising. She frequently serves as a testifying expert in disputes involving IP and startup valuations and damages.

    Ms. Kasznik currently serves as an LES USA-Canada Board member; she previously served as Chair of the High-Tech Sector (2019-2020), and Chair of the Valuation Committee (2021-2022). She is also currently serving Chair of the LES Silicon Valley Chapter. Ms. Kasznik has been recognized as one of the top IP strategists in the world by IAM 300 every year since 2013. Throughout her career, Ms. Kasznik has also served as co-founder and adviser to several start-ups, and held the position as CFO at a telecom start-up. She currently serves on the advisory boards of several start-ups, accelerators and venture funds in the United States, Europe, Asia and Israel.

    Ms. Kasznik holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a BA in accounting and economics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

    Sam Wiley, Managing Director, Ocean Tomo, a J.S. Held Company

    Sam Wiley is the Strategic Business Intelligence Lead for the Specialty Services group at Ocean Tomo, a part of J.S. Held. With deep expertise in intellectual property (IP) strategy, innovation, and business intelligence, Sam works closely with in-house IP teams, outside counsel, and financial institutions to address complex IP challenges and uncover strategic opportunities.

    A globally recognized expert in the field, Sam has held pivotal roles at organizations such as the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), CPA Global, and LOT Network. His multidisciplinary background in technology, law, and business has earned him a place in the prestigious IAM Strategy 300. He also serves on the Boards of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) USA & Canada and the LES Silicon Valley Chapter, and he is an instructor with AMAVI.

    Sam’s career highlights include his time as a patent examiner at the USPTO, where he specialized in electrical and software arts, and his contributions to econometric analysis and expert testimony in IP-related litigation. He has also led initiatives in IP intelligence, analytics, and monetization, offering actionable insights that drive business decision-making.

    A sought-after speaker and thought leader, Sam is known for turning complex IP issues into clear, strategic opportunities, making him a trusted advisor and influencer in the global IP community.

    Taraneh Maghame, Esq., Maghame IP and Legal Services

    Taraneh Maghamé is an IP business leader and legal advisor with government relations and policy expertise.  In her 30+ years of practice, she has been senior counsel at major technology companies including Apple and HP, managed multi-party licensing programs at Via Licensing, and handled litigation and licensing matters at global firms including Brobeck and Perkins Coie.  In 2018, Ms. Maghamé was appointed to the European Commission’s Expert Group on Licensing and Valuation of Standard Essential Patents and continues to work on IP policy matters. She has testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and the FTC and has been included in the IAM 300 World’s Leading IP Strategists for multiple years.  

    Ms. Maghamé established her firm in 2022 to provide clients with strategic IP legal and advisory services.  She is admitted to practice in California and Washington State and before various Federal courts in the US and is a registered patent practitioner with the USPTO. 


     
    Carole Boelitz, Vice President, Global IP and Chief IP Counsel, Schneider Electric

    Carole Boelitz is vice president, global IP and chief IP counsel at Schneider Electric. She is a practicing corporate and patent attorney with over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of intellectual property protection, strategy and law. Before joining Schneider Electric,  she was executive director of IP at Lenovo, vice president of IP for a start-up packaging company, chief IP counsel for a start-up nuclear development company, and lead IP counsel for Microsoft Research worldwide. Before her attorney life, Carole also served in the US Air Force developing classified satellite systems. Carole is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, MIT, and Harvard Law.


    Matteo Sabattini, PhD, President and Chief Licensing Officer of Convida

    Dr. Matteo Sabattini is a though leader in the IP space. He has years of expertise in technology licensing and IP strategy, and his background blends business, policy and technical skills. He has published extensively and regularly speaks at industry events on IP matters. He holds an MBA from the George Washington University (GWU), a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and a Laurea Magistrale magna cum laude also in electrical engineering from the University of Bologna.

    Dr. Sabattini recently served as President and Chief Licensing Officer of Convida, a joint venture between Sony Corporation of America and InterDigital and a pioneer in research and innovation for IoT and cloud services. Dr. Sabattini also held positions at Ericsson, the Sisvel Group, InterDigital and other leading organizations in the IP industry. He also held several teaching and research positions in wireless and mobile communications at UCSD and at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR).

    Dr. Sabattini is a member of the board of the Licensing Executive Society International (LESI). He is an IEEE senior member, a Beta Gamma Sigma lifetime member, as well as a member of the MIT Enterprise Forum. He is active in the community and has served on several boards of non-profit organizations. He is an avid skier and a mediocre surfer.

    Adam Falconer, a Senior Adviser at StoneTurn, a global professional services firm focused on litigation advisory, compliance, investigations, forensic technology and data analytics, brings more than two decades of expertise in IP and technology consulting. Adam focuses on litigation advisory services including licensing, expert witness testimony, IP strategy, and technology valuation, delivering data-driven solutions for complex business challenges. As a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and Vice-Chair of the Licensing Executives Society USA/Canada Valuation & Pricing Committee, Adam combines deep IP knowledge with strategic current insights. He is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law and Iowa State University College of Business.
