Panelists’ Bios:
John Carney, Managing Director, China IP Exchange LLC
John’s career in the automotive business spans 40 years in finance, sales, marketing, M&A and program management. He successfully completed four divestitures as a deal director during Delphi Automotive’s 2005 -2009 restructuring effort. John joined the Delphi (now Aptiv) licensing activity in 2009, where he recently retired as the director of the worldwide licensing and IP monetization efforts. Since 2013, under John’s direction, the Licensing and IP monetization team at Delphi/Aptiv has completed over 60 licensing and IP related sale transactions. He is currently the Chair of the Automotive Industry Advisory Board for LES (USA & Canada). John has participated in a variety of industry-based panels of technology convergence in the automotive market.

Efrat Kasznik, President, Foresight Valuation Group
Efrat is an intellectual property valuation and strategy expert, with over 20 years of consulting experience, focusing on assisting companies of all sizes and across industries with the management and commercialization of their IP and technologies. Foresight Valuation Group is a Silicon-Valley based IP valuation, strategy, and start-up advisory firm. She is a Lecturer on IP Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), as well as a Lecturer in Accounting at the Stanford Law School. Efrat is the Chair-Elect of the Internet of the High-Tech Sector (LES USA-Canada). She has been listed on the IAM 300 list of World Leading IP Strategists every year since 2013. Efrat is a frequent author and speaker on topics related to IP strategy and valuation. Throughout her career, she has also been a founder and CFO of Silicon Valley startups, and currently serves on the advisory boards of several startups, accelerators and venture funds in the US, Europe and Israel.

Krishna Sood, Senior Counsel, Open Innovation Team, Microsoft
Krishna is an experienced commercial, media and technology attorney and thought leader on the impacts of artificial intelligence technologies. At Microsoft, she supports open data, data regulation, policy and open innovation. She has advised on M&A deals, inbound/outbound licensing, corporate, commercial, data protection, media regulation, copyright, platform liability, telco and e-commerce issues. A regular participant, contributor and speaker on AI and data, Krishna is CIPP/E qualified, a member of the IEEE’s Society on the Social Implications of Technology and an expert advisor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence in the UK. Her specialties include: Data, Technology, Media, Telecoms, Privacy, E-commerce, Platform Responsibility, Commercial practice, Intellectual Property, Gaming, Team Management and Leadership.

Katharine Stephens, Partner, Bird & Bird
Katharine is co-head of Bird & Bird’s IP department in London and a member of the International IP Steering Group. Her broad IP practice mostly focuses on patent, trade mark and design litigation. She has considerable experience in coordinating and running patent litigation in more than one jurisdiction and in designing and implementing pan-European protection and enforcement programs, running one such program for a consumer electronics client for almost 10 years. She enjoys the strategic and tactical nature of the work, whether it be in relation to advising on the protection, exploitation or the defense of her client’s IP rights.

Moderator: Stephen Schott, Attorney, Schott Law Office
Stephen advises clients on joint development, licensing, patent sales, and the IP-aspects of corporate transactions, as well as on design around and offensive and defensive patent activities. He oversees patent prosecution on behalf of clients and has significant experience dealing with non-US intellectual property issues. He has advised clients on IP issues related to semiconductor manufacturing processes and equipment, integrated circuits and discrete semiconductor devices, biomedical, automotive, alternative energy, consumer products and jewelry. He was the Director of Patents at Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation for eight years, as well as an associate and of counsel in two top-tier law firms. Since 2009 he has had his own practice.
