Frank Bernstein, Partner, Singularity LLP
Frank has extensive US Patent and Trademark Office experience, in both pre-grant and post-grant patent matters, as well as substantial US Federal district court experience in all phases of courtroom proceedings in patent infringement litigation, from pre-filing investigations, through claim construction hearings, trial and appeal. Frank is a former chair of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society. Frank has been recognized in the 2014-2016 editions of the IAM 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners for California. He also has been named a 2016 and 2017 Managing Intellectual Property “IP Star,” and a 2017 Northern California Super Lawyer. He has a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Caltech, and a J.D./M.B.A. (finance concentration) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Emily Hostage, Senior Director and Policy Counsel, Strategic Analytics and Policy, for RPX Corporation
Emily conducts quantitative studies on patent litigation and market data at RPX. She also publishes reports on the data and related policy issues, and briefs policymakers and IP industry leaders on relevant statistics. Previously, she was an associate at Arnold & Porter LLP and prior to that served as corporate counsel for a late-stage startup solar technology company. she received her JD from Harvard Law School and her BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Boston University.
Lee Van Pelt, Partner and co-founder, Van Pelt, Yi and James LLP
Lee has evaluated patent strategies for investors and developed strategies and prepared patents for emerging companies in Silicon Valley for over twenty years. He also prepares patent opinions and provides litigation analysis. He received a B.S. in Physics, summa cum laude, from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of California-Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. He teaches a patent law class at Boalt as well as a technology class for lawyers also at Boalt.

Nader is co-head of the Firm’s IP and Technology Group and Cybersecurity Practice. A leader in the field of IP transactions and strategy, he has been recognized as a 2017 IP Trailblazer by the National Law Journal, as a member of the Strategy 300 (2015-2017) and Patent 1000 (2012-2017) by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” by Daily Journal (2012). He is a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School (2015-2017), where he teaches a course on Patent and Technology Licensing. Nader concentrates his practice on high-stakes IP and technology transactions, including in the context of mergers, acquisitions, collaborations, divestitures and settlements. His clients have included Alcatel-Lucent, Alibaba, Anheuser-Busch InBev, AT&T, Bayer, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Dolby, Eastman Kodak, Intel, Major League Baseball, Pharmasset, Silver Lake Partners, Skype, Stemcentrx and VeriFone. He previously served as general counsel of a telecommunications software company through its acquisition. He has a B.A. from UCLA and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
